Our History

With its roots in contracting & ready mix concrete, Cemco evolved to fill a gap in the concrete industry.

L.F. Perry, who grew up operating and fixing machinery, recognized the need for mobile, self-contained batch plants and revolutionized the industry by designing and manufacturing mobile units that allow contractors to effectively and profitably bid on jobs of any size in any location.

+ OPENED PERRY READY MIX IN STAMFORD, TX

After working as a home builder/cabinet maker in the early 1950s, Mr. Perry became interested in the ready mix concrete business. In 1959 he and his family moved to Stamford, TX, and opened Perry Ready Mix, a business he operated until 1971. As the business grew, some jobs would come along that required more mixer trucks than Perry Ready Mix had, and some jobs even required an on-site plant. He concluded that he needed a mobile concrete batch plant.

+ BUILT FIRST "TILT 'N BATCH" PLANT

When Mr. Perry set out to purchase a mobile batch plant, he discovered that there were none. He purchased a used, two-piece 5 yard batcher and used it on several jobs. Difficulty moving the equipment and low production led him to design and build his first totally self-contained, mobile batch plant. This “Tilt N Batch” plant and two mixer trucks allowed Mr. Perry to produce the volume needed for any job and made it easy to move the equipment to the next job.

+ DESIGNED BATCH PLANT FOR MCP IN ODESSA, TX

By 1970, Mr. Perry was building a much-improved version of his original mobile plant and his design was noticed by MCP (Manufactured Construction Products) in Odessa, TX. This is the only time that he was an employee and not the owner of the company. He designed an even better mobile plant using electronic weighing. MCP built and sold 42 of these plants during Mr. Perry’s time there.

+ FOUNDED CENTURY INDUSTRIES, INC.

With the continuing optimistic entrepreneurial spirit, Mr. and Mrs. Perry moved to Georgetown, TX, and started another company—Century Industries, Inc. There he designed the M-10 Mobile Batch Plant—yet another mobile, self-contained batch plant using more advanced and accurate weighing systems.

When CEMCO first opened in 1975, Mr. Perry primarily designed and built custom forms for concrete contractors. All his drawings were done by hand on his drafting table. By the mid-1980s the focus began to shift to building CEMCO batch plants, and by the late 1980s CEMCO transitioned to manufacturing concrete batching equipment exclusively.

Any design improvement or upgrade sent Mr. Perry back to his drafting table to work it out on paper. After successfully manufacturing the batch plants for several years, Mr. Perry designed a mobile central mix unit with the unique idea of using a giant ring bearing for the mixer drum.
